280ZX Demo Derby
November 10, 2001

280ZX parts car + barn with dirt floor + inadequate lighting + propane heat = a whole lot of fun...NOT!  I have never in my life seen so many spiders on, in, around a junked car before.  Notice the Lincoln Continental spare tire thing going on in the back there.  That was placed there to protect the back end from the bumper of my nephew's Jeep.  Did a lot of good as you can see from the smashed tail lights.

OH MY GOD!  Nuff said.

Another view of the same disaster.  Despite appearances this engine was running quite strong with good oil pressure earlier this year.  At this point we are in a quadry as to how to proceed.  So many bolts are so corroded they are breaking off.  Will have to do some drilling and Helicoils.

An unexpected treat.  A squirrels nest on top of the manifold.  Complete with chewed out chess nut shells.

FINALLY!  If you have never taken off an L28 intake manifold before and you are planning to do so you are in for a real treat!  I had to remove rusted bolts in areas you can't see and can only find by feel alone with an M10 socket on a 12 inch extension.  The fender well being the major obstacle.  I have a renewed respect for Nissan auto mechanics.  The driven side of the turbo is clearly visible.

As you can see I was over joyed with the whole experience.

Here I was in the process of removing the dash and steering column to get at the brake/clutch peddle sub assembly I need for the 280ZX auto-to-5speed conversion.  Almost as much fun to remove as an intake manifold.

There is more to come.  Had to go back on December 8th to retrieve the engine and tranny.  I'll have those pics up here shortly.
